Command Chronology
- Significant Events
a.
From 4 Sep to
2 Oct 1966, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines was in a training status at Camp
Schwab, Okinawa. From 3 Oct to 28 Oct 1966, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines was
afloat as a Contingency Force. No intelligence was gathered directly by 3d
Battalion, 3d Marines during the period 4 Sep to 28 Oct 1966.
b.
From 28 Oct
to 31 Oct 1966, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines was located northwest of Dong Ha
airfield. Limited patrolling was conducted, and only one incident, a VC
initiated small arms incident occurred.
- New Developments. No
new developments noted.
- Problem Areas
a.
AN/TPS-21 is
on administrative deadline due to lack of a Radar Technician. Tipsy will be
most useful in 3d Battalion, 3d Marines new area.
b.
Lack of
interpreters defeat attempts to gain information from local populace. Five
interpreters are being requested through S-1.
- Weather. Weather
around Dong Ha has been mostly cloudy with intermittent rain and
moderate winds and temperatures. Weather has not hampered ground
operations but has interrupted air operations periodically.
- Intelligence Summary. Very
little enemy activity was encountered. No booby traps, mines or
fortifications were discovered. No sabotage or terrorism activities
were noted. One VC initiated small arms incident took place between an
unknown number of VC and a platoon patrol.
