Coordinates (903497) Company Lima patrol was moving along trail when they encountered 1 man, woman, and child. Man was a captured Viet Cong suspect (VCS) woman and child escaped. Patrol point was then fired on by NVA. Marine was wounded in neck. NVA was brought under fire and killed. Captured 1 Chinese sub-machinegun and 100 lbs. of rice. Marine was Med Evac at 181500.

Company Lima with tanks approached village of Thon Bai coordinates (117665) from the south. Tank stopped and troops who were riding disembarked vicinity (122658) Tank continued north towards village when it struck a mine. In front of the tank. Tank exploded and burst into flames, killing one crew member and wounding 3 members. Company Lima continued into village and swept north through village and then swept south back through village receiving small arms fire and approximately 10 rounds of 60mm mortar fire  resulting in 7 USMC WIA. Upon completing return sweep of village at 041745H observed and killed 1 NVA in green uniform in vicinity of tank (118663) carrying 5 60mm mortar rounds with fuses, 200 rounds of belted 30 caliber ammunition, 5 chicom grenades and 1 pack with assorted items. Results of action 1 USMC KIA, 10 USMC WIA and 1 enemy KIA.

After returning from regemental operaton, the battalion was required to send Lima and Mike Companies and Command group Bravo to the assistance of 2/4 which was in heavy contact with the enemy in the vicinity of coordinates (123655). Upon leaving the battalion position, they were chopped to OpCon 2/4 and upon reaching its position were utilized to reinforce the defensive perimeter. Major contact and incoming rounds were received during the night and early morning of 27 October. Lima and Mike Companies and Command Group Bravo returned to 3/3 positions chopped prior OpCon 2/4 and to OpCon 3/3.

India Company engaged with estimated enemy platoon. Artillery and 81mm mortar missions requested and air support was called in. Lima Company prepared to move out to assist India Company. At coordinates (113667) India Company found 1 gas mask, 1 NVA diary, 2 NVA packs, 2 hammocks and some rice. All gear was forwarded to Battalion S-2. Lima made contact with the enemy after moving through India Company and reported the enemy appeared to be well dug in.

India broke contact with the enemy. Lima continued to call artillery, 81mm mortar misssions and gunship misssions in the area.

All elements of India Company and Lima Company returned to C-2 bridge. Contact resulted in 6 USMC KIA, 14USMC WIA (Med Evac), 1 USMC MIA, and 18 USMC WIA (minor). Enemy KIA  11 NVA (conf), 12 (prob).

Moved to the line of departure under cover of darkness. The attack commenced with atwo companies, India and Mike, in the attack and Kilo and Lima in reserve. Directional mines were encountered early during the attack and casualties were incurred by both companies. Mike Company came under heavy fire from the enemy in bunkers located at coordinates (101693), the general area of Regimental Objective C. Momentum was retained and the bunker complex neutralized. When contact had subsided, Mike Company was pulled back to defensible terrain and Regimental Objective C was consolidated. Enemy small arms, recoiless rifle and mortar fire were received throught the remainder of daylight hours. Probes continued throught the night accompanied by heavy incoming mortars and Chicom grenades. Enemy coontact ceased prior to daylight and on  order, at first light on 12 November the battalion returned to the C-2 Bridge position. Mike and India Companies ran into numerous booby traps resulting in 14 WIA. Mike Company later that day sustained 11 WIA as a result of an engagement with the enemy; 4 WIA as a result of enemy mortars; and 4 WIA sa a aresult of friendly artillery. Lima Company also incurred 4 WIA as a result of enemy mortar fire.
